Queen of the West

Book One of The Queen of the West Trilogy

“Fans of Ohio history and women’s fiction will enjoy this book.”—Historical Novels Review

An immersive journey back to the 1850's when the American dream was possible for any man willing to work for it. But what about a woman? Or an immigrant's son? In Queen of the West, an unlikely couple joins together to realize their dreams and trail blaze for a more equitable America.

In 1855, Cincinnati was known as the Queen City of the West, a modern boomtown, gateway to the frontier. When Annie’s father dies and her mother marries a Cincinnati man, Annie finds her new home is far from the civil and progressive New York. A spirited independent woman, she is distraught at the prospects of her future.

She meets handsome Max, an aspiring capitalist from the German immigrant Over-the-Rhine neighborhood and they bond through their common ambitions to fight the established order and realize their dreams.  Annie is drawn to the National Women's Movement, but realizes that fighting for women’s rights smacks in the face of society’s expectations and the restrictions of a traditional life with Max. She must ultimately choose between love and her independence to fight for the cause.
